Geography and History

History Intent

Community

Children will understand how people and societies have developed and evolved over time in both their morals, values and behaviours. This will allow the children to reflect on their own actions and how they will impact the future.   Our history curriculum is inclusive so that all children have access to the whole curriculum, building a fascination for the past.

Courageous Advocacy

Children will learn about significant events and individuals that acted as agents of positive change throughout history.  Children will reflect on their own views and consider their own role as ‘agents of change’.  Children will grapple with societal issues from the past and present historical findings to range of audiences using high level tier 2 and 3 vocabulary. We aim for our children to express well-balanced opinions, rooted in very good knowledge and understanding about the past and how it has impacted today.

Curiosity

We seek to inspire children so they are curious and fascinated about the past, and to think and act as historians. We will teach powerful knowledge  so children, know how and why the world, our country, culture and local community have developed over time; children understand how the past influences the present.

Geography Intent

Community

Children will have a greater sense of who they are, their heritage and how they fit in the larger world. Our children will understand the similarities between places and people whilst also appreciating and respecting their differences. All children have access to the whole curriculum, building a fascination for their locality and wider world

Courageous Advocacy

Lessons and experiences across the geography curriculum opens the children’s eyes to an understanding of the world, their place in it and how they can act to make positive changes for their local and global communities. We aim for our children to express well-balanced opinions, rooted in very good knowledge and understanding about current issues in society and the environment.

Curiosity

To inspire in children a curiosity and fascination about the world and its people, through an enquiry-based curriculum, that will remain with them for the rest of their lives. Children will learn key geographical concepts and skills, including the gathering, communication and critical analysis of data and sources of information.
