At St Nicholas CE Primary School we are committed to laying firm foundations for our students' holistic development. We believe that instilling core values is crucial in shaping their character and preparing them for a successful future. Our behaviour curriculum aligns with this vision, focusing on the development of skills, attitudes, and behaviours rooted in Respect, Honesty, Courage, and Kindness.

Core Values:

Respect: We foster an environment where respect is at the heart of all interactions. Children learn to respect themselves, others, and their surroundings, embracing diversity, practising active listening, and treating everyone with dignity and fairness.

Honesty: We value honesty as a foundational principle of personal and academic integrity. Children are encouraged to be truthful in their words and actions, taking responsibility for their mistakes, and cultivating a culture of trust and authenticity.

Courage: We nurture courage in our children, empowering them to face challenges and overcome obstacles. They learn to embrace new experiences, take risks, and develop resilience in the pursuit of their goals, thereby fostering personal growth and development.

Positive Behaviour Expectations:

Clear Expectations: We establish clear behaviour expectations that reflect our core values and are consistently reinforced throughout the school. These expectations are communicated effectively to children, parents, and staff, creating a shared understanding of the standards we uphold.  Our Key Code is visible in classrooms and around school.  Staff carry a copy of the Key Code

Positive Reinforcement: We celebrate and reinforce positive behaviour through various means, such as verbal recognition, appreciation, and rewards. By acknowledging and appreciating childrens' efforts in embodying our core values, we motivate and encourage them to continue making positive choices.

Modelling: Our staff serve as positive role models, exemplifying respect, honesty, courage, and kindness in their interactions with students and each other. Through their actions and words, they inspire children to embody these values and contribute to a positive school climate.

Restorative Practices: In instances of conflicts or incidents, we employ restorative practices to resolve issues and restore relationships. These practices encourage open dialogue, empathy, and understanding, helping students develop conflict resolution skills and learn from their experiences.

 

Social and Emotional Wellbeing :

Emotional Awareness: We prioritise the development of emotional intelligence, enabling children to recognise, understand, and manage their emotions effectively. These skills help them cultivate empathy, self-regulation, and positive communication skills.

Relationship Building: We provide opportunities for children to build positive and meaningful relationships with their peers, teachers, and the wider community.
